I have finally upgraded the old 1348 to the new version, the Gitzo 3540XLS. Why, well the G-Lock System. This is a new way in which the legs are locked making it quicker and easier to adjust the leg height and thus making my life as a photographer a little bit easier. It has taken me quite a while for me to change as the 1348 was and still is a great tripod. But once I tried one I could not go back.
This system also permits Gitzo to create a lighter yet sturdier tripod which is another bonus as well as having the locks form a better seal translating to less legs getting stuck after working in deep water.
It goes without saying that the tripod is a superb platform for creating tack sharp images and the build quality lasts for years. (The 1348 this is replacing was the oldest piece of kit in my store outlasting lenses and bodies by years!)
When asked what tripod to get I always suggest getting the best possible tripod you can afford and the 3540XLS is it!
