The 70-200 is a classic lens and a favourite focal length of mine from way back. I have owned ever incarnation of this lens from Nikon since the first AF 80-200 f2.8 came out. The latest version the AFS 70-200mm f2.8G VR is just as sharp as ever. A great versatile lens for everything from landscapes to birds in flight, the fast f2.8 aperture allows full AF with a teleconverter, my favourite combo is the 70-200 with a 1.7x TC. While it has slight vignetting with the full frame D3 it is nothing that cannot be fixed easily in software, in fact you can fix it in camera with the new Vignette Control via the latest firmware update.
