Micro Nikkor 200mm f4 IF-ED
Most of my macro work is shot with the 200mm F4 micro lens. I do own the 105 f2.8 VR and the 60mm f2.8 but the lens I grab for most projects is the 200. Why? Well for starters the excellent working distance is great when I cannot get physically close to my subject which is often the case when dealing with skittish insects and the field of view is fantastic for eliminating any unwanted background elements and for throwing the background completely out of focus. It isn’t the fastest focusing lens around with its old school camera driven focus but I generally shoot manual focus for macro work and if I do need AF spend I will grab the 105VR instead. |
