 Nikkor 24mm f2.8 PC-E Nikkor 24mm PCE

Wow what an amazing lens. I am using this for more and more different projects everyday as I find new ways to utilise the unique tilt-shift capabilities. Though one might think that this lens is an architectural lens it is far more versatile that that. Originally purchased for the shift function for use with my panoramic images replacing the slightly longer 28mm PC lens the shift has come in useful for a number of other images very converging lines are normally common. Shooting treescapes where the trees converge are a thing of the past.

The tilt function is fantastic for increasing depth of field without closing down the aperture. You can move the plane of focus from being parallel to the film plane to intersecting with the subject so you can have amazing depth of field for landscapes at a reasonable aperture. Fantastic for getting sharp images fields of wildflowers while they are blowing in the wind!

The way Nikon has managed to keep a connection between the lens itself and the camera even though the lens needs a physical 'break' to allow the tilt-shift to work is an engineering marvel. Using electromagnets to communicate with the camera body means we do not have to remember to shut down the lens before shooting, something I was often guilty of doing.

This is not just lens to be used to shoot buildings, it is a landscape photographers dream.
