The D300 is a fab little camera, a veritable mini D3. It has the majority of the features the D3 has, with live view, better high ISO files (but nowhere near that of the D3), the same 51-point AF system and a superb 100% viewfinder image and a 3 inch LCD, all in a much smaller package with a MUCH smaller price tag. I do love this camera but it (unfortunately) is no D3. I bought this camera because of its smaller size and weight but quite often put up with the D3 over the D300 for its better battery life, superb files and FX sized sensor.
It is a vast improvement from the D200 and if you are looking at upgrading your D200 or even your D2x without dropping a bomb, then you cannot go past this little beauty.
