I use it primarily to set the timings for my digital startrail shots but it works as a backup cable release in case the MC-30 goes south.

MC-36 Remote Cable mc-36

I know that the D3 (and D2) have a built in intervolometer but the MC-36 just make the job easier and I am all for making photography easier. I use it primarily to set the timings for my digital startrail shots but it works as a backup cable release in case the MC-30 goes south.
